Method 1 Force Restart

If iPhone doesn’t turn off, the first thing you should do is to force restart it. In this way, the power circle of the system will be shut down. I will illustrate how to force restart different iPhones below.

For iPhone 6 and Older Versions

Hold down both the Power and the Home button for at least 10 seconds until the screen goes black and the iPhone log appears and then, let go of it.

For iPhone7/7 Plus and Later Versions

Similar to what you do on iPhone 6, hold down both Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, release the iPhone until you see the Apple log pop up.

In most cases, if the problem that iPhone won’t turn off is not caused by a broken button, this method should work perfectly.

Method 2 Use AssistiveTouch to Shut Your iPhone Down

If your iPhone can’t turn off because the Home button or the Power button is damaged, you might as well try AssistiveTouch – a group of virtual buttons appearing on the screen with which you can shut down the device.

To enable AssistiveTouch, go to Settings > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch and toggle it on. Now, the round AssistiveTouch button will appear on the screen. Tap on it, select Device, keep pressing Lock Screen until the Power Off slider comes out. Now, move the slider to the left to close your device.

Method 3 Turn iPhone off with Third Party Software

If none of these methods above appear to be effective, then, Syncios should be an alternative way to fix the problem. More than an efficient tool for phone backup/transfer, it also provides an option to shut your device down within one click.

1.       Install and launch Syncios, connect your iPhone to PC and wait until the device is detected.

2.       Click on Toolkit in the top toolbar.

3.       In the new page, click on Shutdown. When the notification “Do you want to power off the device?” pops up, click on Yes to continue.

2.       Launch iTunes on your PC.

3.       Click on the iPhone icon on the upper left.

4.       Click on “Back Up Now” to create a backup for your iPhone.

5.       When finished, click on “Restore Backup”.
