What to Do If iPhone Can’t Make or Receive Calls after Updating to iOS 12

Recently, many iPhone users respond that iPhone can’t make or receive calls after updating to iOS 12. In the following tutorial, I will introduce some very basic and practical methods to fix this issue.

iOS 12 has brought us many new amazing features including much faster responsiveness, AR experience, and FaceTime group.

However, every time there is a new update for iOS, glitches or bugs occur among users after installing the software because in the course of the update, your device can be reset and some settings may be changed. iOS 12 is not an exception either.

Recently, we see a large number of users report iPhone can’t make or receive calls after updating to iOS 12 which literally pissed them off. Why does this problem occur and how to fix it? This is what we’re going to discuss in the following contents.

Check Whether the iPhone Is Under Network Coverage

Don’t hurry to make a call after updating to iOS 12. Reboot your device first and then, check whether there is a cellular sign on the upper right of the screen. If not, mobile signal might be blocked where you are and you won’t be able to receive or make a call. In this case, move to some open place and call again to see whether it works.

Ensure Phone Numbers Are Not Blocked

If you’ve accidentally blocked a number for no reason and can’t remember it. Then, iPhone can’t make or receive calls after iOS 12 update. To make sure whether a number is blocked, go to Settings > Phone > Block. Check whether the number is in the blocking list.

Turn Airplane Mode on and Off

Although it seems too simple, in this way, you can sometimes fix the issue because once you turn Airplane Mode on and then, off again, the network on your iPhone will be reset. There are 2 ways to do it.

1.       Swipe down from the top on your screen, tap on Airplane Mode icon to enable it and tap again to shut it down.

2.       Go to Settings > Airplane Mode. Then, toggle it on.

Reset Network Settings

Resetting Network settings on your device will erase all the information including Wi-Fi passwords and cookies generated by your local network. In this way, it’s highly possible to fix the issue. But before that, do remember to write down the Wi-Fi passwords in your notebook.

Tap on Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Reinstall iOS 12 Software on Your Device

If you receive an incoming call but unable to respond and it still remains on the screen if it goes unanswered. You should consider reinstalling iOS 12 update again because in the previous installation, some data might be missed which keeps you from receiving calls.

1.       Make sure you’re running iTunes of the latest version.

2.       Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

3.       Force restart it. Here is how to do it for different iPhone models.

On iPhone 6S and earlier model, hold down both power button and Home button simultaneously until you see the recovery mode screen.

On iPhone 7 and later model, hold down both Volume Down button and home button simultaneously until you see the recovery mode screen.

4.       When the option Restore or Update pops on in iTunes, click on Update to reinstall iOS 12 software. Unlike Factory Reset, the process won’t erase all data on your device.
