So, how to use and manage the iOS notification system? In this article, we’ll show you how to use and manage notifications on iPhone in detail.

How to Use iPhone Notifications

*All the information and steps are available to use notifications on iPad and iPod touch as well.

iOS notification system (or Notification Center) shows you most recent alerts and information, including reminders, messages, missed calls, app alerts, news and etc.

There are 2 ways to see iPhone notifications: notifications on Lock Screen and Notification Center.

Notifications on Lock Screen

Due to iOS notification system, you are able to catch up important notifications without unlocking your iPhone. Besides, you are allowed to interact with these notifications on the Lock Screen directly in iOS 10.

It’s quite easy and convenient to view and use notifications on Lock Screen.

·         View notifications: simply press the Sleep/Wake button or Home button to view notifications on Lock Screen. For iPhone 6s or later, lift the device can wake the screen to view notifications.

·         Use notifications: swipe left over the notifications, and tap “respond” to respond to notifications quickly. iPhone 6s or later device users can use 3D touch to interact with notifications on Lock Screen.

Use Notification Center

Of course, you can manage notifications in another way – Notification Center. Swipe down from the top of any screen (including the Lock Screen), you can open Notification Center.

Just like view and use notifications on Lock Screen, you can use same methods to manage notifications in Notification Center, or tap “x” at the top-left corner to clear the alerts and notifications.

How to Manage iPhone Notifications

You are allowed to customize Notification Center settings and styles, so it makes easier and more effective to manage iPhone notifications.

1. Enable/Disable App Notifications

The first step to manage iPhone notifications is to make sure if you want the app to send you alerts or notifications or not. So, first of all, let’s see how to enable or disable app notifications from the Notification Center.

To enable or disable app notifications, go to Settings > Notifications and choose an app. Here, we take Instagram as an example. Choose Instagram, simply toggle the “Allow Notifications” to enable or disable the notifications.

However, to get app notifications, you not only need to turn on “Allow Notifications”, but also so some other settings, such as sounds, badge app icon and etc.

2. Change Alerts Styles for iPhone Notifications

·         Show in Notification Center

If you want to the notifications be viewed in Notification Center, then enable “Show in Notification Center”.

·         iPhone Notifications Sounds

Turn on Sounds toggle, you can have a sound alert when you receive a notification. You can disable notification sound by switching it off.

·         Badge App Icon

When enable “Badge App Icon”, it will show how many notifications you have for the app, and there will be a red number appear on the app icon.

·         Show on Lock Screen

Enable this toggle, the app notifications and alerts will be shown on Lock Screen.

Moreover, there are 3 alert styles to choose: None, Banners and Alerts. Among them, Banners and Alerts are widely chosen, and banner alerts appear at the top of the screen and go away automatically.

With all the proper settings, if you still don’t see notifications, you need to check your network settings. You have to connect to a Wi-Fi or cellular network to receive notifications.

Some specific apps will also use your location to send you relevant alerts and notifications. You can go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services to check settings.
