Instead of “Dark Mode”, Apple actually names this feature as “Smart Invert”. But don’t worry, it ensures you the same functions as Dark Mode. You are able to turn on and use Dark Mode feature on your iPhone or iPad in iOS 12 or the earlier iOS 11.

Smart Invert, which is dubbed “Dark Mode” in iOS 11/12, is considered as the updated version of “Invert Colors”. The Dark Mode dims the whole screen and changes certain colors on iPhone. It is perfect for late night browsing, and can effectively save your eyesight.

*For example, once you turned Smart Invert on, the white color on your iPhone changes to black, yellow changes to blue and green changes to magenta. But it doesn’t work universally, the wallpaper, app icons or photos on your iPhone will not be influenced.

iPhone X is the first iPhone model that comes with all-screen design, and now the users of iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max can take benefits from this features as well. To get better view experience at night, we suggest you to enable Dark Mode on your iPhone.

How to enable Dark Mode on iPhone exactly? Check this guide and figure out how to turn on the hidden “Dark Mode” (Smart Invert) on iPhone in iOS 11 or iOS 12. We are going to introduce you several ways to make turn on iPhone Dark Mode.

Method 2: Reduce White Point

Although “Reduce White Point” cannot truly set your iPhone to the Dark Mode, it ensures the pretty same effect and you can use it as an alternative option. To enable iPhone Dark Mode by reducing White Point:

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Reduce White Point, and decrease the intensity of bright colors by sliding the slider to the right, setting it between 75% and 100%.

1. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom > enable ‘Zoom’, and a lens appears over your iPhone screen.

2. Take 3 fingers and tap 3 times to activate a menu, choose “Resize Lens” to resize it to fill the whole screen.
