Everyone who is surfing on Internet and using online social media should be familiar with animated GIF images. What is GIF? Below is an excerpt from WIKIPEDIA:

The Graphics Interchange Format, better known by its acronym GIF (/dʒɪf/ JIF or /ɡɪf/ GHIF), is a bitmap image format that was developed by a team at the bulletin board service (BBS) provider CompuServe led by American computer scientist Steve Wilhite on June 15, 1987.[1] It has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.

You may have a collection of many interesting and funny GIFs. But do you know how to make GIF with photos by yourself? If you are looking for methods of making GIF by yourself, you are coming to the right place. In this article, we will introduce three useful methods to make GIF with photos. Let's start.

Method One: Make GIF with Online Tools

You can find many free online GIF makers if you search online. The most popular tools should include gifmaker, imgflig, and makeagif. Since they do not need to be downloaded and installed, they are quite easy to use. Take GIPHY's GIF MAKER for example.

Step 1. Visit GIPHY's GIF MAKER online.

Step 2. Click 'CHOOSE PHOTO OR GIF' to add the photos you want to make GIF from. Each photo will be a separate frame of the animated GIF.

Step 3. Once the photos are loaded, you can have a preview at the left side. If the GIF is not in the order you want, you can simply drag and drop the photo to reorder them. Or simply add or remove photos for better effect. You can also move the slide to adjust the image duration.

Method 2: Make GIF with GIMP

GIMP is an open-source image editor, which can be used for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows, and more operating systems. It provides sophisticated tools that can enhance the productivity of graphic designer, photographer, and illustrator and help them have their job done. To create GIF with photos by using GIMP, please refer to steps below:

Step 1. Download GIMP for free and install it.

Step 2. Open GIMP and click File > choose "Open as Layers..." to select your photos saved on your computer. To select multiple photos, please hold on Ctrl key. Each layer is a frame of the GIF. The photo on the bottom of the list will be the first frame. You can drag them to adjust the order.

Step 3. If you like, you can edit the photos like adding text to them. GIMP offers you with many edit options. Basically, you can find all tools to help you edit the photos as you needed.

Tips: Once you finish the edit, you can click Filters > Animation > Playback to have it opened in a new window. Then click the Start playback button to preview the animation. Adjust the editing until you are satisfied.

Step 4. Click File > Export As... > enter the name > click "Select File Type (By Extension)" to find and click gif extension > click Export and a new window will appear. Click Export in the new window to finish the work. You can also make some adjustments according to your needs in this window.
