How to Completely Erase iPhone before Trade-in or Selling

To protect your privacy, you should completely erase iPhone before trade-in or passing on to someone else. Do it correctly to avoid affecting data on your new iPhone.

Apple has a Trade-up program that allows you to trade in your Apple old device for a brand new one. It is great for recycling and saving money if you want to buy a new Apple device. To make sure that your data is safe, you should completely erase iPhone before trade-in or selling it.

What to Do before Selling iPhone?

To get your iPhone or iPad ready for trade-in without affecting the new one, there are a few things you need to do besides erasing all contents and settings.

First, you should make sure iCloud backup is enabled. Personal information is all backed up in iCloud including the contacts, calendars, Safari bookmarks, key chains, etc. To be clear, iPhone Reset will automatically disable iCloud and erase all content and settings, so the data saved on iCloud will not be affected.

The media files, which usually take a large amount of space, should export to your computer because iCloud is slow to handle large files and available storage is limited. Some users even backup photos to computer instead of iCloud because of insufficient storage, not to mention music and videos.

If your iPhone is connected to an Apple Watch, you should unpair it before erasing iPhone. In addition, you should also turn off Find My iPhone. Most of the trade-in sites, if not all, do not accept old iOS devices with Find My iPhone enabled.

How to Erase an Old iPhone without Affecting New One

With all valuable data backed up, you can start to wipe out all iPhone data before trade-in. the Erase feature built-in iPhone or iPhone is pretty neat. To avoid low power problem, you should make sure your iPhone has 50% of battery power or is plugged in.

You can follow the steps below to get started.

Step 1.Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step 2. Scroll down select General > Reset>Erase All Content and Settings.

After a short while, your iPhone will restart and you will see the iPhone initial setup screen. If you are still worried about your iPhone was not completely erased, you can setup the old iPhone as new to make sure there is no trace of data left behind.
