[Practical Tips] How to Fix the CarPlay Not Working

Do you ever meet the problem of CarPlay not working when you trying to play your iPhone contents in your own car? In this article, some practical solutions will be provided to fix this issue.

Apple’s CarPlay makes it safer and more convenient for users to have access to their iPhones when driving a car. With this feature, you can easily make phone calls, use Apps or send and receive text messages by ordering Siri.

However, things don’t always go well. Sometimes, the problem of CarPlay not working may occur especially after updating your device to the latest iOS version. In this case, I’ve prepared several easy and effective solutions for you and hopefully, they can help you out.

Check Whether the Lightning Cable Is Compatible

To enable the feature of CarPlay, you must connect your iPhone to your car’s jack first via a lightning cable. Normally, CarPlay works well when the cable is made by Apple. However, sometimes, if you use a third-party made lightning cable, CarPlay won’t work normally.

So, change the lightning cable and have a try.

Force Restart Your iPhone

It seems too simple, but sometimes, it does fix glitches. Here, I’m going to explain how to force restart iPhones in different models.

For iPhone 6 and Earlier Models: Long press the home button and the power button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.

For iPhone7/7 Plus: Long press the home button and the volume down button simultaneously.

For iPhone 8/X: First press and quickly release the volume up button, then, do the same to the volume down button. Lastly, long press the power button until you see the Apple logo.

Check Whether CarPlay Is Restricted

Apple has the feature of Parental Control to avoid children from using functionalities their parents don’t want them to.

So, if CarPlay is restricted, you can’t use it. Check it first.

Go to Settings > General > Restrictions . Enter your passcode and turn off CarPlay restriction.

Check Whether Siri Is Turned on

If Siri is not turned on, you have no chance to control CarPlay via your voice. So, when the problem of iPhone CarPlay not working occurs, make sure Siri is toggled on on your iPhone.

Follow the steps to check whether Siri is enabled.

Go to Settings > General > Siri, toggle it on and then, toggle on “Allow ‘Hey Siri’” to fully enable the feature.

Check iOS Update

Sometimes, CarPlay not working might be a bug of Apple itself. In that case, you should check whether there is a recent update for iOS which patch up your device and fix this problem.

First, back up your iPhone. Then, go to General > Software Update > Checking for Update. When an update is found, tap to install it.

If you fail, try to install the update via iTunes.
