How to Back up iPhone to PC Wirelessly

Besides cloud backup, there are ways to back up your iPhone without USB lightning cable. Read this to see how to back up iPhone to PC wirelessly.

You know you should backup your iPhone in case data loss, but not many people actually do it on a regular basis. Would you back up your iPhone if you know a much easier way? In this article, I am going to show you 2 easy ways to back up iPhone to PC wirelessly.

Why iCloud Backup Is Not Enough

Of course, you can back up your iPhone to iCloud, but iCloud is not ideal or should not be your only backup plan for backing up all your data, especially media files due to a few reasons.

  • You cannot see what really is include iCloud backup.

  • You cannot schedule when to start iCloud backup.

  • You need to have enough space to get all media files backed up.

  • In some cases, iPhone won’t backup to iCloud.

  • If someone hacks your iCloud account, you will lose your personal privacy.

Therefore, it is recommended to back up media files on your iPhone to a PC or use a PC as a second backup location.

Method 1: Back up iPhone over WiFi Using IOTransfer

As an iTunes alternative, IOTransfer allows you to back up iPhone/iPad to PC without being plugged in. Once connected, you can back up your iPhone to PC right on your iPhone without using your computer.

Let’s see how it works.

Step 1. Free download and install this software on your computer that is running Windows 10/8/7.

Step 2. Download IOTransfer AirTans on your iPhone. Open this software and navigate to the AirTrans section.

Step 3. There are two ways to connect your iPhone and PC over WiFi. The program will search all iOS device connected on the same network. You can select the device on your computer to connect your iPhone. You can also use your iPhone to scan the QR code build connection.

Step 4. Select files from your iPhone to back up to PC.

You can change the default location to any folder on your PC. Once the process is complete, you can open the location where iPhone backups are stored to view all files included in the backup. Besides AirTrans, there are more useful features to help you better manage your iPhone. You can use IOTransfer to download videos on your iPhone, clean iPhone for junk files, convert video format, etc.

Method 2: Sync iPhone to PC wirelessly with iTunes

 If you have installed iTunes 10.6 or higher version, you can sync your iPhone via WiFi without USB lightning cable. In order to use iTunes WiFi Sync, your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch has to be running iOS 5 or higher version.

With iTunes, you still need your lightning cable to initialize WiFi Sync. After the initial setup, you can forget about the lightning cable and use sync your iPhone wirelessly.

Step 1. Download and install iTunes for Windows on your PC if you have not already. Connect your iOS device to your PC via lightning cable.

Step 2. Click on the iPhone/iPad/iPod icon and select Summary.

Step 3. From the right screen, scroll down and check the option Sync with this [your device] over Wi-Fi.

Step 4. Click the Apply button to save this change.

Once your iOS device and PC are on the same WiFi network, you can use these three ways to start iTunes Wi-Fi Sync after you enable WiFi Sync option.

  • When you connect your iOS device to a power source and is on the same WiFi network, it starts sync to your iPhone to PC over WiFi automatically.

  • In iTunes, click on your iPhone icon and click Sync button to manually start iTunes WiFi sync.

  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, then tap Sync Now to start syncing your iPhone to PC in the background.

It is quite convenient when you can start iTunes Wi-Fi Sync on your iPhone, but you cannot change sync settings on your iPhone. You have to open iTunes on your computer to adjust what to sync.
