5 Ways to Take a Screenshot in Mac

There are various ways to take screen capture, which is also known as screengrabs or in lay man’s term screenshots on Mac. The process of taking screenshots is very much easy and then you can save it.

There are various ways to take screen capture, which is also known as screengrabs or in lay man’s term screenshots on Mac. The process of taking screenshots is very much easy and then you can save it.


When we compare the screenshot taking process with a PC. MAC appears to be a lot easier because there are multiple ways to do the same task. We are going to list 5 ways to take a screenshot in Mac.


Taking screen shot of a dropdown menu (or other screen areas)


Repeat the same Key strokes i.e Cmd, Shift, 4 and after that press Space and drag the camera icon through the open menu drop down. Press the mouse button and you will have the screen shot of the dropdown menu.

Mac screengrab shortcuts


The ABC’s to take a screen shot are easy


Keep pressing CMD + shift, then press 4

Take crosshairs throughout the place of your screen, which you want to capture.

On your home screen this file will appear screenshot as a .png file, classified as ‘Screen Shot’ [year]-[month]-[day] at [time]’


Pressing both Cmd (which is called Apple Key) and Shift, after that press 3, and this will munch a screenshot of your whole screen. This file will appear as a .png picture on your desktop. The filename will start with a ‘Screen Shot’ along with time and date. Two images will appear, 1 for each display, incase if you are using two screens with your Mac.


How to take a screen shot of a specific area?


If you do not want to take the screenshot of whole desktop, then here is another way which will solve your problem. Keep holding the first two keys, i.e Cmd and Shift but this time press 4. A crosshair will emerge on the desktop, then you can take the screenshot.


How to take a screen shot of a specific size?


After pressing Shift, Cmd and 4 and before clicking the mouse. While moving the cursor here and there, you will be observing vertical pixels followed by a horizontal pixel. And then you can take the screenshot of a respective size.


Pro tip for Mac screenshots


Once the cursor emerged on the screen, you can release keyboard keys. After pressing the mouse button and then moving the crosshair, press Space and then you can move the selected area. By pressing Shift and Space, you can move it horizontally only.


If you want to cancel the operation at any time, just press Escape. The whole operation will be cancelled and no image will be processed or taken.


Keep pressing Ctrl, when you move the crosshair and the aftermath screen grab will be copied on the pasteboard. From pasteboard, you can paste it on any document, instead of keeping it on your desktop. Many people will find this process helpful
