Batteries run into troubles all the time, sometimes it gets burned up, or its ampere rating falls off. The point being, at some point you will have to get your iPhone battery replaced.

Replacing an iPhone's battery is not as simple as android phones. Hence people avoid even trying and instead pay $80 dollars to get the battery replaced. Why waste so much money when you can do all of it yourself?

For this DIY, you will need a narrow-end spudger and a small Phillips screwdriver. Also, make sure you've completely read the whole article before diving into it.

Theory:

Getting to the underside of motherboard:

1.Push a needle through the small hole next to earphones jack to pull out the sim tray.

2.Locate two small size screws on either end of the dock. Unscrew them with the small Phillips screwdriver.

Note: From here on forward, you should be very careful and make sure to put every screw in a small tray. These boggers have legs, they will run away the second you take your eyes off them!

3.Pinch the spudger into the gap between the chrome ring and the screen at the dock, pull up the screen a bit. Now you will have an idea of the screen boundary, gently and slowly pull out the screen from all sides. Don't pull it all the way, just bring it up.

4.Lift the panel from the dock's side very carefully and flip it over. Make sure you locate the ribbons attached to the upper panel when you lift it up a little, so that you can make sure not to rip them.

5.Use the spudger to disconnect ribbon labelled "1".

6.You are able to complete the flip of the upper panel and get an easy access to remaining connections. Disconnect the ribbon labelled "2".

7.Push the spudger gently under the white plastic tab holding the last ribbon, flip it over. It should rotate to 90 degrees before releasing the cable.

8.Disconnect the black ribbon from its connector, separating both panels.

9.Remove the five 2.3mm screws on the sides of the motherboard. Then remove 2 2.33mm screws securing the logic board and camera. Now remove the 2.9mm screw under the sticker labelled "Do not remove". Of course you know the consequences of removing the sticker.

Note: Make sure you're at you’re a-game now, extra care is very important.

Replacing the battery:

1.Unplug the ribbon labelled "4". Lift the motherboard, be careful and gentle to avoid ripping the ribbon attached to the camera.

2.Disconnect the ribbon to remove the motherboard, set it aside.

3.Use the spudger to gently remove the camera from it's placeholder, don't pull it off, the camera can't be removed just yet.

4.Gently pry up the logic board from the dock's side. Make sure all the screws securing it are removed if it doesn't comes out. Now slide out the logic board towards the dock's direction and set it aside.

5.Pry the tab attached to the battery to remove it. You might have to use some force for this one if the battery is swollen.

You're good to go! Remove the battery now and follow all the above steps above in reverse. Be careful and thoughtful of what you're doing. You might need small clipper to reconnect the ribbons.

Disclaimer: The step where you remove the 2.9mm sticker from under the label "Do Not Remove" will void handset's warranty. Do so on your own consent after knowing the consequences.
